What does it mean "Kaffee'n'Kuchen" — literally,
coffee and cake.

Kaffee und Kuchen is a famous German tradition that started back in the day when the first Café houses opened in Germany in the 17th century. In these times, only the German aristocracy could afford to get a coffee and cake, but after the 19th century it became accessible for everybody.

Usually, every Sunday, between 3 and 4pm, we meet up after late lunch. Families and/or friends get together to spend some quality time and enjoy coffee with some cake, Bienenstich, Donauwelle or a simple Marmorkuchen.

It’s a tradition, that's all about gathering with family or friends on a relaxed afternoon for a chat over, well, coffee and cake.

Would you believe, that I actually didn't like baking at all.. till I met my husband?! Back then, 2012, he signed me up for a potluck at his work, at Ramstein Air Force Base. Let me tell you, first of all I didn't know what a potluck was and second, he mentioned  it to me on a Sunday, A SUNDAY!!

ALL the stores are CLOSED on Sundays in Germany.

And of course he told work, that I'll make a German cake!! My thought was "ME?! And baking??"

After a little brainstorming, I had a cake in mind, that I was able to make with ingredients that were available at the commissary. At the end everyone liked the cake. And I need to say I really enjoyed making it . Since then, my curiosity about baking got bigger & bigger over the time.

In Hawai'i 2019, right before the kids & me went to Germany to visit family & friends, I got the glorious idea to start my own little side hustle.

Kaffee'n'Kuchen was born!
